Perinatal Loss
Starting a family is usually an exciting time in a woman’s life; however, sometimes it does not work out as planned. About 10% of women in the United States have difficulty getting pregnant or staying pregnant and about 20-25% of births end in miscarriage. Losing a baby is never easy regardless of whether the loss occurs early during the pregnancy, later in the pregnancy or shortly after the baby is born.
Following infertility or a reproductive loss, you may experience thoughts and emotions unfamiliar to you. You may feel angry at your body, you may believe that you were not meant to be a mother or that you will never be able to start a family in the future. You may feel sad, hopeless and out of control. These emotions can be intense and scary, especially because women tend to grieve silently from reproductive loss or infertility. You do not have to do this alone.
